Resume:

ROGER J. WOOLGER, PH.D, is a Jungian analyst, regression therapist and professional lecturer with degrees in psychology, religion and philosophy from Oxford and London Universities. He trained as an analyst at the C.G. Jung Institute, Zurich. Born a British citizen, Roger has lived in the US for over 25 years but travels widely and teaches Jung and the psychology of spiritual traditions in London, Salvador and Brasilia. (see his recent collection of spiritual poetry The Story of the Heart (2008))  He has taught at Vassar College, the University of Vermont and Concordia University, Montreal and has led workshops at the New York Open Center, Esalen Institute and Omega Institute.

Roger speaks at a broad range of conferences internationally and as an amateur medieval scholar runs tours to the South of France on the themes of the Black Madonna, the Grail legends and the Cathars. (www.magdelenetours.com) (For his complete biography, please go to http://www.rogerwoolger.com/about.html)

Roger first book, Other Lives Other Selves, (1987) is one of the most influential works in the field of regression therapy and has been translated into German, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and Japanese. More popular versions of his work are Healing Your Past Lives (2004) and Eternal Return (Audio-book, 2002). A definitive presentation of his work appeared in the foundational text Regression Therapy: A Handbook for Professionals by Winafred Blake Lucas (1993). He has a chapter in Transpersonal Psychotherapy. (ed) Seymour Boorstein, CA, 1996.

Roger has been training therapists since the late 1980s, but only began calling his work Deep Memory Process® (DMP®) in 1992 (1).  The following is an extract from his 1992 announcement:

Deep Memory Process® or DMP® for short, is a synthesis developed by Roger J. Woolger, Ph.D which integrates various therapies (Jungian active imagination, psychodrama, hypnotic regression, Reichian body therapy and transpersonal psychology).  DMP® focuses on deep memory images and stories embedded in the unconscious mind that are powerul mirrors of present day conflicts - intrapsychic, interpersonal, professional, sexual, relational, family, community and so on.

As in psychodrama, Jungian dream work, Gestalt  therapy, and regression therapy, DMP® offers ways to role play and resolve personified complexes in a safe and structured form that frees us to live more fully in the present. DMP® enables us to transcend whatever unconscious belief systems are keeping us stuck, and gives us expanded options in our present lives. This therapy has been found to be particularly effective for issues of interpersonal relationships, family systems, career choices, self-esteem issues, issues of childhood sexual abuse and blockages, personal empowerment, as well as problems of social isolation.

In contrast to much regression therapy that is based on hypnosis, Deep Memory Process® favors instead a blend of guided imagery, psychodrama and archetypal role playing. Dramatizing current life personas, dream figures and "past life" fantasy selves is a powerful tool that facilitates the healing and resolution of psychological conflicts. Belief in past lives as real is totally irrelevant to this therapy. Like our dreams, "past lives" are simply metaphors, but very evocative metaphors of present day complexes.

[1]  The term "Deep Memory Process" (DMP) was first proposed publically by Roger Woolger at the first meeting of the British Integral Regression Network, at Grimstone Manor, Yelverton, Devon on Saturday 20th April, 2002.
