Dissociation, Trauma and the Body
Introduction to working with and integrating the fragmented parts of the self. an experiential workshop. residential or non-residential
Part of the normal response to any trauma is ‘Dissociation’. It is the soul’s way of surviving an event the breaks our sense of self, fracturing the protective energetic system that surrounds our physical bodies.
If we physically experience a trauma, fragments of our psychic energy split off. These fragments can hide within the body or leave our energy body altogether, creating what the Ancients understood as Soul Loss. As a result we can feel as if we are “not all here” and experience ‘flash backs’ or body memories which can feel like an attack on the very core of our being.
Science helps us understand the physiological effects of trauma on our bodies but it is the healing of our energy systems, our soul and our sense of self that also requires attention. To integrate and heal dissociation we first need to locate and identify the fragments that have split off. Pivotal to this process is the body, the anchor that connects all the strands of the psyche. Giving the body a voice is essential in enabling a deeper level of inner integration and healing to take place.
Topics covered include: ·
- Locating and identifying split fragments
- Giving the body and dissociated fragments a voice in therapy
- Reintegration of lost fragments
- Exploration of the impact of dissociation
